Message from the Chief Executive
Recently I met with a past patient who wanted to donate money to Cabrini Health. 'Mrs Smith' (not her real name) wanted to recognise and thank all at Cabrini Health for the wonderful care had received. She thought Cabrini Health had plenty of money, didn't need more, and that any small contribution would simply be used for day-to-day expenses rather than benefiting clinical services and future patients and families.
It occurred to me that Mrs Smith's concerns probably reflect a common community view. Many people think Cabrini Health is well off, and that we receive help from the Catholic Church or from Government.
We do not receive money from the Catholic Church or from Government. If we need new equipment or new buildings, we must lease or buy it. Our modest profit is reinvested in our work to maintain and enhance our services, facilities and equipment.
Our donors give to Cabrini Heath because they believe in our vision for service development and they are inspired by our mission and values. Every donation, no matter how large or how small, is very welcome and helps us establish new services, purchase new equipment or undertake new research.
I told Mrs Smith that Cabrini does need money and gave some examples of new services, equipment and building projects on the 'drawing board' and explained how her donation will help us realise our vision. In turn, she can be confident that her money is being used for good purposes.
Over the next five years, there will be many opportunities for donors to work with us on different projects designed to make Cabrini Health a better place for patients, residents and their families.
Thankyou
Dr Michael Walsh
Chief Executive
