Peter Matthey

Peter Matthey
Chairman

Peter is a senior partner at KPMG and a Director of KPMG Transaction Services. He has some 35 years experience in public accounting, primarily in the Audit Division of KPMG and, in recent years, in the Transaction Services Division. His primary industry focus is Financial Services with significant sector experience in health care, energy and natural resources, infrastructure and transportation and market traded products. Peter currently specialises in due diligence advisory and capital market transactions in the role of independent accountant reports for public offer documents. Peter has worked extensively throughout the Asia Pacific region. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia. Peter is the Chair of the Patient and Clinical Governance Committee.

 

Richard Rogers

Richard Rogers
Vice Chairman

Richard Rogers’ professional experience is in property development, business advisory and retail. Richard was Joint Managing Director of Roger David and now sits on various boards and acts as an advisor to a number of businesses. Richard also acts as a mentor to young people commencing business activities. He has been heavily involved in community activities and is a former President of a number of Jewish community organisations. He is currently a director of the Gandel Philanthropic Trust. Richard joined the Board in June 2007 and is currently Deputy Chair of the Board and a member of the Audit and Risk Management Committee.

 

Michael Walsh

Dr Michael Walsh
Public Officer/Secretary

Michael has a distinguished career in hospital and health administration in Victoria, Western Australia, the United Kingdom and the Middle East. He is a medical graduate of Monash University, holds the Degree of Master in Public Administration from the Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University, and is a Fellow of both the Royal Australian College of Medical Administrators and the Australian College of Health Service Executives. Michael serves as a member of the Cabrini Institute Council.

 

Sr Barbara

Sister Barbara Staley, MSC

Sister Barbara Staley MSC holds a Masters Degree in Social Work from New York University and a Bachelors Degree in Science Education from Clarion State College. She has also studied Theology in Rome. Since 2004 Sr Barbara has been the Director of Child Care Services & Administrative Services (Finance) at Cabrini Ministries in Swaziland (Africa). From 1995 until 2004 she was the Director of Programa CIELO at St. Anthony Hospital Chicago, an agency providing health care and social service access for immigrants. At the same time she worked as a Therapist in the outpatient Psychiatric unit at the Hospital. Sr Barbara has also worked in Pastoral Care in Guatemala and is a fluent speaker of Spanish. Sr Barbara entered the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in 1987, taking her final vows in December 1996. Sr Barbara taught courses regarding cross cultural work at a number of universities in the Chicago area and supervised the Masters of Social Work under-graduate students at Loyola University, The University of Chicago, The Dominican University and Midwestern University. Originally from Falls Creek Pennsylvania in the United States, Sr Barbara became acquainted with the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart while volunteering at shelter for homeless youth in New York City.

Sister Sharon Casey, MSC

A native of the USA, Sr. Sharon recently served two terms as a Provincial Councillor with the Stella Maris Province. Her background is in education and she holds a Masters of Science in Religious Education from New York’s Fordham University. Sr. Sharon has served as Executive Board Committee Member for Cabrini High School in New Orleans and the Cabrini Centre for Nursing and Rehabilitation in New York. She also had the privilege of serving the Province as Vocation Director for the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Sr. Sharon is a member of the Mission and People Committee.

Bruce H Barraclough, AO

Bruce Barraclough is Dean of Education, Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, Associate Dean (Clinical Strategy) of the University of Western Sydney Medical School, Board Chair, Australian E-Health Research Centre and Senior Clinical Advisor to the NSW Director General and Minister for Health . He serves on working parties for the WHO World Alliance for Patient Safety and is Past President of the International Society for Quality in Health Care. He was Board Chair, NSW Clinical Excellence Commission 2005 – 2010, Professor / Director of Cancer Services, Northern Sydney Health and the University of Sydney (2000- 2005), Chair of the Australian Council for Safety & Quality in Health Care (2000 – 2005) and President of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (1998 – 2001). Bruce is a member of the Patient and Clinical Governance Committee.

 

David Curtain QC

David Curtain QC

David is a Barrister who practices in a wide variety of areas including medical and other professional negligence, commercial litigation, civil juries and personal injuries. He was appointed Queen’s Counsel in 1993. David is a former Chairman of the Victorian Bar Council, a former President of the Australian Bar Association and the former President of the Medico-Legal Society of Victoria. David has been a keen supporter of Cabrini Health for some years, serving on the Cabrini Institute Council before joining the Governing Board in 2007. He is a Member of the Cabrini Human Research Ethics Committee.

 

Peter Mahon

Peter Mahon

Peter is the Chief Executive Officer of Royce, a corporate advisory company specialising in providing communications advice. He has a Bachelor of Economics from Monash University and he has extensive experience in the corporate, government and not-for-profit sectors. Peter’s experience in the health care sector includes providing communications advice to the Department of Health and Ageing, The Therapeutic Goods Administration, the Victorian and Commonwealth Departments of Human Services, Medicare Australia, the Royal Children’s Hospital, Mercy Hospital for Women, St. Vincent’s Health, Affinity Health, Villa Maria Society, Freemasons Hospital and the Sisters of Mercy. Peter served as a member of the Xavier College School Council and is a former chair of the Xavier College Foundation. He is also a director and equity owner of a boutique investment bank and is a Board member of the Sacre Coeur Foundation and the Salvation Army Board of Advice.

 

Professor Robyn E O'Hehir

Professor Robyn O'Hehir is Director, Department of Allergy, Immunology and Respiratory Medicine, The Alfred and Professor of Medicine (Allergy, Clinical Immunology and Respiratory Medicine), Monash University, Melbourne. She is a consultant physician, educator and researcher with an active clinical and experimental research program in immunomodulation in allergy and anti-inflammatory therapies. She has won continuous grant support since 1997 from National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) and as Director of the Monash University node of the Cooperative Research Centre for Asthma and Airways (CRC Asthma 1999 – current). Professor O'Hehir is Editor of the international journal Clinical and Experimental Allergy and is frequently invited as a speaker to national and international allergy and respiratory meetings. She is a current Director of The Menzies Foundation and was a previous Director of Asthma Victoria and the Harold Mitchell Foundation.

 

Sister Helen Monkivitch RSM

Sister Helen Monkivitch RSM

Sr Helen is a member of the Mercy Health & Aged Care’s executive team. She is responsible for the Group’s Leadership Development and Mission. Sr. Helen was the Chief Executive Officer and Sister Administrator of the Mercy Hospital for Women 1984-95 and Chief Executive Officer 1986-88. She holds a Master of Health Planning from the University of New South Wales; a Bachelor of Arts from Swinburne Institute of Technology and a Diploma of Nursing Administration from Lincoln Institute of Health Sciences. Sr. Helen was a member of the congregational leadership team of the Sisters of Mercy, Melbourne 1994-2000; and a member of several Boards of Governance. She has been a member of a number of professional associations and was the President of Catholic Health Australia and the Australian College of Health Services Executives (Victorian branch). Sr Helen is a Member of the Patient and Clinical Governance Committee.

 

Sylvia Falzon

Sylvia Falzon

Sylvia has over 26 years experience in the Financial Services industry and has held a number of senior executive positions with Aviva Investors, Alpha Investment Management and AXA specialising in funds management, superannuation, operations and governance. She is a member of the Managed Fund and Superannuation Advisory Council for the Financial Services Institute of Australasia (FINSIA) and has been a lecturer and task force member for over 12 years. In 2004, Sylvia was awarded a fellowship from FINSIA for her contribution to the industry. She is also the past Chair of the Peter MacCallum Breast Cancer Committee where she held that position for 10 years. She is currently a director of Museums Victoria. Sylvia holds a Masters of Industrial Relations (Hons) from the University of Sydney.

 

John Santamaria

Associate Professor John Santamaria

John is the Director of St. Vincent’s Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit and the National and State President of the Australian & New Zealand Intensive Care Society. He has been a member of the Governing Board since 1992. He graduated in Medicine at Melbourne University and undertook a Doctorate in Medicine on breathing control. John is a member of the Cabrini Institute Council, serves as the Chair of the Health Ethics Committee and is a Member of the Patient and Clinical Governance Committee.

 

Fr Bill Uren

Father Bill Uren SJ

Fr. Uren is Rector of Newman College at the University of Melbourne. He is a Jesuit priest and a former President of the Catholic Moral Theology Association of Australia and New Zealand. Fr. Uren is a graduate in moral philosophy, jurisprudence and theology from the Universities of Melbourne, Sydney and Oxford and the Melbourne College of Divinity. Fr Uren was a member of the NHMRC Australian Health Ethics Committee 2000-2006.He has lectured extensively in moral philosophy and bioethics at a number of Australian universities, and has served on both clinical and research ethics committees in hospitals, universities and professional bodies. Fr Uren is Chair of Mission and People Committee.

 

Robert Zahara

Robert Zahara

Robert is Chief Executive Officer of Metecno Pty Ltd., an Australian leader in insulated building panel manufacture and installation with 10 factories across the country. He holds degrees in Chemical Engineering and Arts and a Master of Business Administration. He has spent most of his working life in public company environments. Robert is a Chair of the Risk Management Committee.
