Professor Peter Phelan

Professor Peter Phelan
Chairman

Peter is the Emeritus Professor of Paediatrics at the University of Melbourne.  In 1997 he retired as the Stevenson Professor and Head of the Department of Paediatrics.  Over the years, Peter has served on many Commonwealth and State Government committees dealing with health policy, health delivery and medical education issues.  His clinical and research interests were in paediatric respiratory medicine on which he published extensively.  Peter is a member of the Cabrini Institute Council.

 

John Santamaria

John is the Director of St. Vincent’s Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit and the National and State President of the Australian & New Zealand Intensive Care Society.  He has been a member of the Governing Board since 1985 and Chairman of Cabrini Health Ethics Committee.  He graduated in Medicine at Melbourne University and undertook a Doctorate in Medicine on breathing control.  John is a member of the Health Ethics Committee and the Cabrini Institute Council.

 

Roger Greenman

Roger is the Chief Executive Officer of Cabrini Health.  He is an Associate Fellow of the Australian College of Health Service Executives and a member of the American Hospital Association.  Roger currently serves as a member of the Catholic Health Australia Committee and is a Director of the Church and Charitable Private Hospitals Association of Australia.  Roger is a member of the Audit and Finance Committee the Cabrini Apostolic Planning Committee and the Mission Integration Committee.

 

Sister Helen Monkivitch RSM

Sister Helen Monkovitch RSM

Helen Monkovitch is a member of the executive team of Mercy Health & Aged Care. She is responsible for the Group’s Leadership Development and Mission. Helen brings a wealth of experience in health and aged care, mission and ethics. She played a key role in the development of Mercy Health & Aged Care and is the keeper of the history of Mercy Health & Aged Care and its predecessors. Helen was the Chief Executive Officer and Sister Administrator of Mercy Hospital for Women from 1984 to 1995 and CEO from 1986-1988. Her qualifications include a Master of Health Planning at the University of New South Wales; a Bachelor of Arts at Swinburne Institute of Technology and a Diploma of Nursing Administration at Lincoln Institute of Health Sciences. Helen was a member of the congregational leadership team of the Sisters of Mercy, Melbourne from 1994-2000; and a member of several Boards of Governance. She has been a member of a number of professional associations and was the President of Catholic Health Australia and the Australian College of Health Services Executives (Vic branch).

 

David Curtain QC

David Curtain QC

David is a Barrister who practices in a wide variety of areas including medical and other professional negligence, commercial litigation, civil juries and personal injury. He was appointed a Queen’s Counsel in 1993. David is a former Chairman of the Victorian Bar Council, a former President of the Australian Bar Association and the former President of the Medico-Legal Society of Victoria. David has been a keen supporter of Cabrini for some years, serving on the Cabrini Institute Council before joining the Governing Board in June 2007.

 

Peter Matthey

Peter Matthey

Peter is a senior partner at KPMG and a Director of KPMG Transaction Services.  He has some thirty-four years experience in public accounting, primarily in the Audit division of KPMG and in the past three years, the Transaction Services division.  His primary industry focus is Financial Services, additionally he has significant sector experience in health care, energy and natural resources, infrastructure and transportation and market traded products.  Peter currently specialises in due diligence advisory and capital market transactions in the role of independent accountant reports for public offer documents.  Peter has worked extensively throughout the Asia Pacific region.  He is a Fellow of The Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia.  Peter is Chair of the Audit and Finance Committee.

 

Susan Pascoe

Susan Pascoe AM

Susan Pascoe, AM is Commissioner (Regulatory Reform) with the Victorian State Services Authority. Previously she was the Chief Executive Officer of the Catholic Education Commission of Victoria and Chief Executive of the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority. Ms Pascoe has been a member of several Australian delegations to the OECD and UNESCO, and lead Australia’s delegation to the UN World Education Forum in Senegal in 2001. Currently she is Chair of the Australian National Commission for UNESCO and a Director of the Senate of the Australian Catholic University. Ms Pascoe is the past President and Fellow of the Australian College of Educators, Fellow of the Australian Institute of Public Administration, the Australian Institute of Management and the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

 

Richard Rogers

Richard Rogers

Richard’s professional experience is in the retail and property development sectors. He is a Joint Managing Director of Roger David. For some years, Richard has been heavily involved in community activities and he is a former President of a number of Jewish community organisations. He is currently a Director of the Gandel Philanthropic Trust. Richard joined the Board in June 2007.

 

Fr Bill Uren

Father Bill Uren SJ

Father Bill Uren is Rector of Newman College at the University of Melbourne and is a member of the NHMRC Australian Health Ethics Committee. He is a Jesuit priest and a former President of the Catholic Moral Theology Association of Australia and New Zealand. Father Uren is a graduate in moral philosophy, jurisprudence and theology from the Universities of Melbourne, Sydney and Oxford and the Melbourne College of Divinity.  He has lectured extensively in moral philosophy and bioethics at a number of Australian universities, and has served on both clinical and research ethics committees in hospitals, universities and professional bodies. Father Uren is a member of the Mission Integration Committee.

 

Ray Whelan

Ray Whelan

A long-standing member of the Governing Board, Ray is a past Chair. He has a professional background in the corporate banking and financial services sectors. He is a senior executive with public listed company McMillan Shakespeare Limited, remuneration planning consultants and administrators. 

 

Robert Zahara

Robert Zahara

Robert is CEO of Metecno Pty Ltd., an Australian leader in insulated building panel manufacture and installation with ten factories across the country.  Robert has degrees in Chemical Engineering, Arts and a Master of Business Administration and has spent most of his working life in public company environments.  As well as a member of the Governing Board, Robert sits on the Audit and Finance Committee.
