Background

In April 1997 Deakin University formed a partnership with Cabrini Health, Malvern to establish a research unit in nursing: The Cabrini - Deakin Centre for Nursing Research, based at Cabrini Health. In April 2007, Professor Tracey Bucknall was appointed as the leader of the research centre.

Aim

The Cabrini - Deakin Centre for Nursing Research aims to conduct high quality research that makes a substantive contribution to scientific knowledge, clinical nursing practice and quality patient care.

The objectives of the Cabrini - Deakin Centre for Nursing Research are to:

Current Research Activities

Current research within the Centre concentrates on the generation and use of research evidence to improve patient outcomes. The research focuses on the decision making of clinicians to improve the quality of care and minimise the risk of adverse events to patients receiving treatment. Other research specifically focuses on patients and their involvement in treatment decisions such as pain and symptom management and health care maintenance.
Research funding has been received from local, national and international bodies to support this work.
