One of the principal roles of the Cabrini Monash University Department of Surgery is the teaching of Monash University medical students.  These third year Monash University medical students come to Cabrini for a 12 month placement and alternate 6 months of medicine and 6 months of Surgery.

Post graduate surgical education continues with the ongoing accreditation of Cabrini Health by the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons for advanced surgical training.  Cabrini Health is the only private hospital in Australia to have such independent accreditation for the training of surgeons. The success of a training program in the private sector is being carefully monitored not only by Cabrini but also other private hospitals and the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons.  It is hoped that more accredited positions within the private sector can be achieved in the future.
