Nursing At Cabrini

Nursing Education & Development

There is a range of educational opportunities available to Cabrini nurses.

Undergraduate Nursing Education

Cabrini Health offers varied experiences to undergraduate students, encompassing the continuum of care from pre-admission to discharge.

For Division 1 Nursing Students at undergraduate level, Cabrini Health has two primary relationships – Deakin University and Australian Catholic University.  On an annual basis, more than 200 students are given the opportunity to translate theory into practice.

Cabrini has relationships with a number of vocational education and training providers. The inaugural Cabrini/Kangan Batman Division 2 Medication Endorsement Program is one such example.

Graduate Programs

The Division 1 Graduate Program is outlined on this website.  In addition to this, Cabrini Health run a Division 2 Support Program.  This Program, facilitated by the Education Department, recognises the need for nurturing Division 2 Nurses who are new to the acute environment.  This supported Program enables effective learning in a context conducive to adult learning, coupled with preceptored clinical experience.

You can find full details on our Graduate Program page.

Postgraduate Programs

Cabrini Health facilitates an array of postgraduate education opportunities.  In conjunction with Deakin University, Cabrini provides the clinical medium of the Postgraduate Diploma in Midwifery, Critical Care and Peri operative Nursing.  These are formal, 12-18 month courses with formal postgraduate qualifications.

In addition, Cabrini offers, in association with the University of Melbourne, the Advanced Clinical Practice Course.  This is a formal, 12-month course taking clinicians to ‘the next step’ – the brief is to embrace evidence-based practice and appropriately adapt it to the contemporary clinical workplace.  Students participating in any of these courses have access to suitably qualified and experienced Educators.

Many other Cabrini Nursing staff complete postgraduate studies, which may be clinically or managerially oriented.  The Education Department support these studies by offering any necessary assistance.  An example of this is to run, in conjunction with the Cabrini Institute, a session aimed at assisting with scholarship applications.

Internal Programs

Nursing staff have access to a diverse range of free education.  Over 50 facilitated clinical and non-clinical courses, workshops and programs are run annually. These learning opportunities are consistent with the Royal College of Nursing Australia Life Long Learning (3LP) Program and Nurses at Cabrini are well placed to meet the credentialing requirements of the Nurses Board of Victoria.

An array of learning packages is available for nursing staff to access.  These can be either stand-alone packages or associated with pre-reading requirements of our courses.
