Nursing At Cabrini - Graduate Programs
Division 1
The Division 1 Graduate Year Program
- Conducted at Cabrini Malvern, Brighton and Prahran
- Managed by the Education Department in collaboration with clinical nursing staff
- Program focuses on providing a supportive environment to facilitate the consolidation of theory and practice.
Aims of the program are to help participants develop increasing competence and confidence in their professional role and to develop an increasing willingness to take on responsibility for practice, decision-making and further learning.
The program is conducted over fifty-two weeks (5 weeks annual leave is included). Graduates may nominate their preferences for the two clinical rotations from a range of acute care specialties following interview. A peri-operative, emergency or paediatric elective may also be incorporated into the program.
Where possible, a two-week period of night duty is offered, generally in the second half of the program.
For the 2009 program, there will be three intakes,
19th January 2009
16th February 2009
23rd March 2009.
- 12-month contract
- Monday to Friday for the first five weeks
- then at nine days per fortnight, (7.6 hrs per day) for the remainder of the program
- choice of 2 rotations
- we are not in computer match, interview results by end of August

Information sessions will be conducted at Cabrini Malvern on the following dates and times. No need to RSVP. Each session lasts approximately 2 hours. There will be a presentation and a tour of the hospital, with opportunities to meet many of our current Grads.

Applying for the Program
Specific application requirements need to include all of the following, unstapled, in a plastic A4 sleeve by 5p.m. Monday 14th July 2008.
- Completed Application form from the Cabrini website. Go to www.cabrini.com.au click on ‘Nursing’ and ‘Graduate Programs’, ‘Downloads’.
- Covering Letter – Submit a typed letter, outlining your rationale for applying to Cabrini (max. 250 words)
- Curriculum Vitae – Include Three professional referees
- Academic Transcript – Include a copy of your most recent academic transcript with the legend
- Clinical assessments – Include a copy of all your clinical assessments – if they are greater than 6 pages, please just submit the last summary page.
- Passport sized photograph

Individual Interviews will be conducted at the Malvern Campus from mid July onwards. Candidates selected for Interview will be notified via telephone.
Successful candidates at interview will then be contacted by telephone and a letter of offer will follow.

Division 2
The Division 2 Support Program is conducted at Cabrini Malvern and is managed by the Education Department in collaboration with clinical nursing staff.
The main aims of the program are to help participants develop increasing competence and confidence in their professional role and to develop an increasing willingness to take on responsibility for practice, decision making and further learning.
Working in partnership with Division 1 nurses, this program aims to enhance theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the acute care setting thus increasing the Professional Development and career diversity for Division 2 nurses at Cabrini Health.
- 52 week program of a 12 month contract
- 2 main rotations (1 medical /1 surgical )
There is a 2- week supported orientation to the program on commencement
- 5 supernumerary shifts on 1st rotation
- 2 supernumerary shifts on 2nd rotation
We will have 32 positions for the 2008 program
- 2 intakes –Monday, 21st April 2008 and Monday, 18th August 2008
- Supported by 1 Nurse Educator / coordinator
- Clinical support nurses
- Allocated preceptor/s
- Paid Graduate support study day
- 5/6 weeks Annual leave
- Graduation and Badge ceremony on completion
- Free continuing education
