Nursing At Cabrini - Specialities - Surgical
1 Central - General Surgery/ENT/Ophthalmology
The 32-bed Ward predominantly cares for patients requiring Breast Surgery, General Surgery, minor Orthopaedic surgery and minor Vascular surgery. Due to the nature of the surgery, there is a high throughput of patients with a short length of stay.
Teamwork is a high priority in a friendly environment. Nurses participate in regular education sessions and new ideas are encouraged at the regular Ward communication meetings.
Breast Care Coordinator: A registered nurse specially trained in all areas of care for patients with breast disease in particular breast cancer.
The Breast Care Coordinator offers support, information and referral throughout the whole disease process incorporating surgery, medical oncology, radiation oncology and palliative care.
An important aspect of the role is to be a link for the patient between different areas of care and to be an avenue of support and information for the patient after they have been discharged from the acute care setting. The Breast Care Coordinator liaises closely with specially trained Breast Care Nurses in specialty areas to provide the best possible practical and emotional supportive care.
