Lee Holt
Clinical Nurse Specialist – Operating Suite
"I have been an operating suite nurse for 8 years, the last two years with Cabrini Health. I feel it’s a great privilege to work in the theatres as we have the opportunity to help our patients through surgery, which is a very challenging and traumatic time. In many cases we are helping to improve a patient’s health or quality of life and that is also very rewarding.
The operating suite at Cabrini Hospital Malvern is a delightful place to work – it’s a bright, modern environment. This all adds to a well-managed team and happy, hard-working staff, with the added advantages such as on-going education. Cabrini offers a workplace that is attractive and outstanding."

Lauren Walford
RN Division 2 – Operating Suite
"I first joined Cabrini in 2003 to work on the general surgical ward. As a relatively new graduate nurse at the time, I had a lot to learn. After three years of great support from my colleagues and many rewarding experiences, I joined the Operating Suite in 2006 to increase my skills and challenge myself further.
Throughout my time at Cabrini I have worked with some fantastic mentors who are truly inspiring nurses. Their passion for providing the best nursing care has been a great model.
The educational opportunities at Cabrini are many and varied. The commitment to patient care and continued staff development is strong. This, teamed with encouragement and support every step of the way, are just some of the many aspects I love about my job."

Russell Moody
Nurse Manager – Cardiothoracics Ward
"I have been nursing for 13 years in a variety of areas but eventually found my niche in cardiothoracics. It’s a career that can take many different directions depending on how much you are prepared to put into it … the more you put in, the more it will reward you. It’s a career that travels with you, opens your eyes to people and places that you may never have otherwise encountered.
Nursing is not just about the technical complexities it’s also about reacting to situations and liaising with patients and families. It forces you to create a strong belief system and put great faith in your fellow Man. The greatest reward is to see patients’ happy faces when they realise that returning home is not far away.
Cabrini puts great effort and support into its staff and patients. It leaves no stone unturned in achieving the best outcome for all involved in the care process. More than half of my career has been at Cabrini and I would not swap it for the world."

Jessica Drake
RN Division 1 – Operating Suite
"I have been a Division 1 Registered Nurse for nine years and have spent my entire career at Cabrini. I had many clinical placements here as an undergraduate and fell in love with the hospital and its people.
There are so many opportunities at Cabrini that suit all people – single women, mothers working part-time and for everyone in-between.
For me, Cabrini has given me some great opportunities. After completing my graduate year, I spent a few years working casually on the wards and travelled extensively overseas. I have had management experience and worked for four years as an associate charge nurse on a surgical ward. More recently I have rotated through theatre and have gained some fantastic experience in anaesthetics and PACU.
Cabrini Health is a wonderful organisation that has a specialty for everyone."

Marilyn Mallon
RN Division 1 – Day Oncology
"My nursing career has spanned 40 years during which time I have practised as a midwife and operating theatre nurse. I spent a significant number of years in this specialty, progressing from clinician to manager – a very enjoyable and challenging professional period. Currently I work in the Day Oncology Unit.
Initially when I made the change to cancer nursing, the Unit’s manager encouraged staff to take advantage of Cabrini’s educational opportunities. Her support certainly helped me make a smooth transition from surgical to medical nursing.
It is a great privilege to be an integral part of the physical, emotional and spiritual journey of cancer patients, their families and carers. The patients draw comfort from knowing that there are a variety of professionals attending to their rigorous treatment regimes in an effort to support their ultimate survival."

Helen Chadwick
Midwife – Maternity Unit
"Most of my nursing career has been focused in midwifery care. Working in maternity services at Cabrini has been both rewarding and challenging. I have had many opportunities to advance and develop my role as a midwife. I currently educate and support a new generation of student midwifes undertaking their clinical studies for registration as a midwife in collaboration with Deakin University.
As the coordinator of prenatal services I enjoy the daily contact with new parents and sharing with them their excitement, and sometimes their trepidation, as they begin the passage towards birth and parenthood. To participate in their journey is a unique experience that I cherish.
From my association with Cabrini and the Maternity Unit I have established many wonderful friendships, been privileged to participate in the joy and sometimes sadness of new life and have the satisfaction of knowing that I have helped couples with their transition to family life."
