Many people fear the term “palliative care”, believing it is only about dying.  It is true that palliative care is for people who have an illness for which there is no cure, but the primary role of palliative care is to support patients, as well as their families, in living with their illness.

 

At Cabrini, we provide palliative care and we specialise in complex care at Cabrini Palliative Care, Prahran.  This specialist centre is located at 646   High Street in Prahran, and offers 22 well equipped single rooms, each with their own ensuite.  Rooms surround a comfortable communal lounge room and tranquil garden courtyard.

When do you need to access palliative care?

Palliative care can be accessed early in the course of an illness, together with other therapies intended to prolong life, such as chemotherapy or radiation therapy, and includes tests/investigations needed to better understand and manage distressing symptoms.

How is palliative care different to other health services?

The main aim of palliative care is to provide comfort and support for patients and families. At Cabrini Health, we believe palliative care is about living with a terminal illness.
