I am an Australian trained Perinatal Psychiatrist with over 20 years’ expertise ensuring the emotional health and wellbeing of mothers, fathers and infants from preconception, during pregnancy and post-pregnancy. A mother’s health during pregnancy and postpartum impacts not only the mother but the father/partner, their infant/children and the entire community. For this reason, I am passionate about supporting mothers to optimise their emotional health and wellbeing during the perinatal period. I manage all emotional health concerns during this time including antenatal and postnatal depression or anxiety, pregnancy loss, adjustment to parenthood, impaired bonding as well as serious mental illnesses - Bipolar Disorder, Schizophrenia and Postpartum Psychosis. My approach is holistic and collaborative. For all of my patient, first I like to address lifestyle factors such as diet, exercise and mind-body connection through yoga. I use evidence-based psychological therapies including parent-infant therapy if required. I have particular expertise in the safe use of medication during pregnancy and breastfeeding. I work closely with Obstetric, Midwifery, General Practice colleagues and other practitioners to ensure the best possible outcomes. I obtained my medical degree from the University of Melbourne where I attended Trinity College. I completed my psychiatry training at 2 of Melbourne centres of excellence in perinatal mental health – Austin Parent Infant Unit and Mercy Hospital for Women. In 2016 with my colleague Dr Lucinda Smith I established GLOW Clinic a unique, holistic and contemporary perinatal emotional health and wellbeing clinic. I am honoured to be invited to join the team at the Cabrini Mother & Baby Centre (CMBC) as their holistic philosophy is closely aligned with GLOW’s. I will consult alongside GLOW Clinical & Perinatal Psychologist Ms Meaghan Jones my experienced, skilled and reflective colleague.
