What is health services research?

Health services research looks at how people access healthcare, how much care costs, and what happens to patients as a result of this care.

The main purpose of health service research is to identify the most effective ways to organise, manage, finance, and deliver high quality care, reduce medical errors, and improve patient safety.

Health services research generates knowledge to inform and guide decision makers – and those responsible for delivering healthcare – on how we can improve the quality of medical care in a cost effective and sustainable way.

Health services research at Cabrini

Cabrini researchers lead health service research impacting medical practices and healthcare system policy on a worldwide scale. New studies are investigating;

  • clinical care models
  • health access and coverage
  • reducing low value healthcare, and
  • improving healthcare sustainability.

Collaborating with other experts and organisations – together with clinical input – our researchers are using a wide range of scientific skills from multiple disciplines, including epidemiology, economics, statistics and psychology to deliver translatable outcomes to population health and worldwide healthcare provision.
