Dr Emily Kotschet

I am a Cardiologist and Cardiac Electrophysiologist consulting at Cabrini, the Victorian Heart Hospital, Monash Private Hospital and Holmesglen Private Hospital.

I completed my cardiology training at The Alfred Hospital before undertaking a two-year Electrophysiology Fellowship in Canada during the early development of atrial fibrillation (AF) ablation. On returning to Australia, I established the AF ablation program at Monash Health in 2007, including Australia’s first nurse-led AF clinic. I also founded the Electrophysiology Clinical Research Unit, leading research into emerging technologies and participating in first-in-human clinical trials involving AF ablation and cardiac device implantation.

My commitment to innovation and patient care led me to establish the Cardiac Genetics Service, providing specialised management for patients with inherited arrhythmia syndromes. I currently serve as Deputy Director of the Cardiac Rhythm Management Unit at the Victorian Heart Hospital.

Beyond my clinical work, I am passionate about advancing the cardiology profession. I founded the Female Leaders in Cardiology group at the Victorian Heart Hospital, mentoring women in the early stages of their cardiology careers, and I am a co-founder and Chair of the Eastern Electrophysiology Group. I am a Fellow and Board Member of the Victorian Division of the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand and regularly present at national and international scientific meetings.

My clinical interests include atrial fibrillation management, cardiac electrophysiology and heart failure therapies, with a particular focus on optimising cardiac health and fitness. I recognise that every patient experiences heart disease differently, and I am committed to delivering personalised treatment strategies that reduce symptoms, improve quality of life and help patients achieve the best possible outcomes.
