Dr Shih-Ern Yao

I am a gynaecological surgeon specialising in the management, treatment and prevention of gynaecological cancers, with special interest in complex gynaecological, minimally invasive laparoscopic and robot-assisted cancer surgery.

I completed my MBBS with honours at the University of Western Australia and began specialist training in obstetrics and gynaecology in 2010 at King Edward Memorial Hospital in Perth. I moved to Melbourne to complete my advanced training at Monash Health in Melbourne before gaining fellowship with the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RANZCOG) in 2016.

My subspecialist fellowships over the next six years took me interstate and overseas where I completed clinical surgical fellowships with Monash Health, the Queensland Centre for Gynaecologic Cancer (Brisbane, QLD) and the Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust (London, UK). During that time I also graduated with a Graduate Certificate in Palliative Care from Flinders University in 2017 and had my Certification in the Subspecialty of Gynaecological Oncology was awarded in 2020.

Currently, I hold a consultant position at Monash Health and am an Adjunct Senior Lecturer at Monash University. I am involved with training and supervision of medical students, junior medical staff and trainees and fellows from RANZCOG and continue to expand on my research experience at both national and international levels with ongoing involvement in clinical trials.
