Updates in AF Management 2024 – Risk factor management, indications, and new technologies for catheter ablation
- Summaries the recent risk factor clinical management tools such as the HEAD-2-TOES / HARMS2-AF lifestyle risk scores
- Describe the data that indicates that AF rhythm control is not just important for symptom relief, but also improves cardiovascular outcomes including mortality
- Recognise that there is growing evidence that AF ablation is indicated in AF patients with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) and heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF)
Dr David Chieng is a cardiologist who specialises in the management of heart rhythm disturbances, including cardiac arrhythmia ablation (SVT, atrial fibrillation, atrial flutter, ventricular tachycardia) and cardiac device implantation (pacemaker, defibrillator, cardiac resynchronisation therapy).
Dr Chieng also manages other adult cardiovascular conditions, including cardiovascular risk assessment, coronary artery disease, and congestive cardiac failure. He holds public appointments at the Alfred, and Latrobe Regional Hospital, where he is the director of cardiac rhythm management. Dr Chieng consults privately at Cabrini Malvern.
Dr Chieng obtained his medical degree under the prestigious SWANS scholarship through the University of Western Australia
He completed his postgraduate cardiology training in Perth, followed by a four-year clinical fellowship training in electrophysiology and pacing (2019-2022) at The Alfred and Royal Melbourne Hospital.
In addition to Dr Chieng’s clinical experience, he has extensive research and academic experience in the field of cardiology. He has received numerous awards and scholarships, including the Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute’s Paul Korner Medal for outstanding PhD achievements.
