SHORT BIO
Mr Joe Kong is an academic consultant colorectal surgeon with a specialist interest in all colorectal conditions such as haemorrhoids, perianal fistula, pilonidal disease, inflammatory bowel disease, peritoneal cancer, small bowel cancer, colorectal cancer (primary or recurrent), hernias, gastroscopy and colonoscopy. He consults at Cabrini Malvern, Alfred Hospital and Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre
Joe completed his FRACS in 2014 through St. Vincent’s Hospital, before undertaking a PhD in colorectal cancer immunology at Peter MacCallum Cancer Center. This was followed by a two-year post-FRACS fellowship training in colorectal surgery through CSSANZ at Princess Alexander Hospital, Brisbane and The Alfred Hospital, Melbourne. Joe then went onto a third fellowship in advanced colon and rectal cancer on robotic surgery at MD Anderson Cancer Centre, Houston, Texas.
Joe is an adjunct senior lecturer at Monash University and continues to have an active role in academia including education, teaching, quality assurance and translational research in colorectal cancer immunology. Joe has authored over 85 peer-reviewed publications and three book chapters
