Allied Health careers

We have a team of highly experienced and long tenured senior dietitians with skills across highly specialised clinical areas in addition to junior staff in grade 1 and grade 2 roles.  We deliver a weekend and public holiday service with assistance from an experienced group of casual staff. Our team of Dietitians and Allied Health Assistants work across all three Cabrini sites – Cabrini Malvern, Cabrini Brighton, Cabrini Specialist Centre – Elsternwick and Cabrini Mental Health facility (Lisa Thurin Women’s Mental Health) providing a range of inpatient, rehabilitation, outpatient and home-based services for individuals and groups.

The Cabrini Dietetics service includes developing personalised nutrition care plans, nutrition care plans and nutrition counselling and support for individuals as inpatients or outpatients; and educating groups such as the cardiac rehab, heart failure, other rehabilitation programs, oncology, and gestational diabetes groups. The dietetics team are also involved in education of medical, nursing and other allied health staff.  We have strong partnerships with universities and provide clinical dietetics and food services student placements for Masters of Dietetics students. The dietetics team are involved in several multi-centre research projects and undertake quality improvement activities, and develop programs and policies that support evidence based care.

The Cabrini Dietetics service offers a range of specialised services including:

• Private Outpatient Clinic – Management of gastrointestinal diseases and disorders, and food allergy and intolerance clinic as a fee-for-service via the Cabrini Allied Health Centre (CAHC).
• Private Outpatient Clinic – Management of oncology, diabetes, and weight management as a fee-for-service via the Cabrini Exercise and Wellness Centre (EWC)
• Gestational diabetes – joint multidisciplinary clinic with the Diabetes Clinical Educator

The dietetics team is committed to continuing education and development of clinical knowledge, skills and leadership abilities with clinicians supported to participate in regular professional development activities (both internal and external).  We offer a supportive supervision program and competency training across specialty clinical areas.

We are co-located with the Speech Pathology team and have a close working and social relationship.  We are a team of food lovers and there are always social morning teas to celebrate birthdays and special occasions, cakes and baked goods are always in abundance and themed shared lunches also enjoyed – e.g. French lunch for Bastille Day!!!  It is a warm and friendly environment with a joint dietetics and speech pathology book club developed in 2024! We are a fun and supportive team to be a part of!

The Occupational Therapy team are an established service which are based across all our Cabrini sites: Malvern, Brighton, Specialist Centre – Elsternwick and Lisa Thurin.

Grade 1 Occupational Therapists will have the opportunity to engage in a rotational program across Malvern and Brighton inpatient acute and rehabilitation services. Rotations enable our grade 1 OTs to develop and consolidate their core OT skills with the support of senior staff and multidisciplinary teams.

Senior Occupational Therapy roles (Grade 2 and 3) exist across both our inpatient and outpatient services. Within these roles there is the opportunity to provide supervision to junior team members, develop leadership skills, extend clinical knowledge and apply innovative practice to clinical areas.

Casual Occupational Therapy roles exist to support our weekend service at rehabilitation and leave coverage throughout the year.

At Cabrini we have opportunities for physiotherapists at any stage in their career. We are a large established team, with over 45 physios employed in permanent positions, and another 50 in casual roles across three different sites, Cabrini Malvern, Cabrini Brighton, and Cabrini Specialist Centre-Elsternwick. We have very experienced and long-tenured clinicians in all our streams and have a strong commitment to professional development and supervision allowing you to further extend your own clinical, educational, and leadership skills. But our team is more than just work! We make sure there are opportunities to have fun with social activities, team lunches, and a few fun competitions such as our annual – ‘6-minute walk fest’.

Early Career / Grade 1 Physio

For physios starting out their career we offer a Grade 1 rotation program. You will enjoy supportive four-month rotations that include opportunities to work with diverse patient cohorts across the health service continuum, including acute rotations in orthopaedics and paediatrics, ICU and cardiothoracic surgery, oncology, general medical and neurology; and sub-acute rotations in inpatient rehabilitation, outpatient rehabilitation and rehabilitation in the home (RITH). With 14 rotations on offer, this is a great place to build your foundation physiotherapy skills and set you up for the next step in your career. We know that creating a supportive environment with great learning opportunities is paramount when you are starting your career and will ensure have access to professional development and supervision from senior staff.

Senior Physios

We have Grade 2 and 3 physios working across all our clinical streams. This includes areas such acute orthopaedics, paediatrics, neuro, respiratory, surgical, ICU, special medicine, palliative care, women’s health, rehab inpatients, rehab outpatients and rehab in the home. Cabrini is a great place to consolidate your skills and with access to senior physiotherapists and a committed multidisciplinary team, allowing you to further extend your own clinical, educational, and leadership skills.

Cabrini Health has an experienced and dedicated Social Work team working across all inpatient sites. There are opportunities to not only develop your own clinical and leadership skills but also support an emerging Social Work team.

Currently Social Work cover specialities such as acute care, oncology, palliative care, neuro, aged care and rehabilitation. Team members have the opportunity in these areas at Cabrini to offer a variety and diverse range of Social work practice.

We are a cohesive social work team who value the benefits of supervision, professional development and peer learning. There are opportunities with this the team from Grade 1 to Team Leader.

The Speech Pathology team at Cabrini are compassionate clinicians who strive to be innovative and informed to collaboratively deliver excellence in Speech Pathology services. We are a small team of dedicated clinicians with a combination of highly experienced clinicians and junior clinicians, along with an experienced group of casual staff who provide our weekend and public holiday service.

Our Speech Pathologists work across the continuum of care in acute, rehabilitation, palliative care, and ambulatory and home based services.  Our services are provided across all three Cabrini sites – Cabrini Malvern, Cabrini Brighton and Cabrini Specialist Centre – Elsternwick.  We provide high quality, evidence based and patient centred care working closely with the multidisciplinary team.

The Cabrini Speech Pathology team offers a range of specialised services including:

• Videofluoroscopic Swallow Study (VFSS)
• Fibreoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallow (FEES)
• Lee Silverman Voice Therapy  (LSVT)
• Management of chronic cough and voice disorders
• Parkinson’s Disease Program
• Private Outpatient Clinic – offering assessment and management of communication and swallowing difficulties as a fee-for-service via the Cabrini Allied Health Centre (CAHC).
