Dr Shirley Ma

I’m an experienced ophthalmologist specialising in cataract and oculoplastic surgery, with a particular focus on conditions affecting the eyelids and lacrimal (tear) system. I am dedicated to delivering personalised, compassionate care and take pride in supporting my patients through every step of their treatment journey.

I graduated with first class honours and was fortunate to receive several academic awards during my medical training, including the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists (RANZCO) Victoria Branch Indigenous Eye Health Scholarship and the RANZCO Congress Jim Martin Award for Best Historical Poster. I was also awarded the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO) International Travel Grant and the General Practice Student Network (GPSN) Schwartz First Wave Scholarship in recognition of my academic achievements.

I completed my RANZCO ophthalmology training at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital and went on to pursue subspecialty training in oculoplastic surgery. I have gained expertise in the management of all conditions affecting the eyelids, tear drainage system, and eyelid tumours.

I believe in a patient-centred approach, tailoring each treatment plan to the individual’s needs to improve vision, function, and facial aesthetics. I have extensive experience managing complex oculoplastic cases, including reconstructive surgery and treatment of ocular trauma.
