I’m a specialist ophthalmologist with a particular interest in medical retinal diseases, including diabetic retinopathy and age-related macular degeneration. I also practise general ophthalmology, including cataract surgery, and take a holistic approach to patient care—considering each person’s overall health and individual circumstances when planning treatment.

I completed my medical degree at the University of Melbourne in 1987, graduating with honours in all subjects. I went on to complete a postgraduate Master’s degree in experimental diabetic retinopathy before undertaking my ophthalmology training at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital. I then had the privilege of completing a fellowship in retinal diseases with Professor Alan Bird at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London.

Currently, I work at the Eye Surgery Associates & the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital’s Medical Retinal Clinic. Over the years, I’ve also held consultant roles at the Royal Melbourne Hospital, The Alfred Hospital, and St Thomas’ Hospital in London. I’m a fellow at the Centre for Eye Research Australia and remain actively involved in international clinical trials through the Medical Retinal Unit and the Eye and Ear Hospital.

Beyond my clinical work, I’ve long been committed to global eye health. I’ve participated in numerous self-funded eye surgery camps in countries such as Nepal, Vietnam, Kiribati, Nauru, Cambodia, Ethiopia, the peripheral islands of Vanuatu, and Laos. Contributing to eye care in underserved regions has been a deeply meaningful part of my career.

I’ve also held leadership roles within the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists (RANZCO), including serving as Chairman of both the Qualification and Education Committee and the Selection Panel for the Victorian Ophthalmology Training Program. I currently serve as an Examiner for RANZCO and remain passionate about training the next generation of ophthalmologists.

Public health care has been central to my practice for over 30 years, and I continue to work in the public system alongside private practice
