Cabrini Brighton receives Full Medicare MRI licence

13/03/2019

From April this year, Cabrini Brighton will be able to provide patients in Brighton and throughout Bayside with access to the full suite of Medicare eligible MRI services, following the announcement of a new, full Medicare MRI licence for Cabrini Brighton. This will deliver approximately 5900 Medicare subsidised services annually.

This means Cabrini Brighton MRI will be able to accept referrals from both GPs and specialists. This will provide better access to MRI services for people in Bayside and surrounding areas who need these vital diagnostic services, and support local GPs in caring for their patients.

When the then newly elected Federal Member for Goldstein Tim Wilson MP first visited Cabrini Brighton in July 2017, Cabrini Brighton General Manager and Director of Nursing Sue Hewat asked him to advocate for a full MRI licence. “This outcome is a direct consequence of what happens when our community works together,” Mr Wilson said.

Mr Wilson re-visited Cabrini Brighton on 7 March to deliver the good news that Cabrini Brighton would be licensed from April. “Bayside has never had a Medicare-eligible MRI licence, and I’m proud the Coalition government has been able to deliver this for the local area.,” he said.

Cabrini General Manager and Director of Nursing Sue Hewat said the new MRI licence would allow Cabrini Brighton to provide this vital service to more patients.

“MRI scans are a vital piece of diagnostic equipment that allow doctors to treat and manage a wide range of conditions,” Ms Hewat said.

“This licence will enable more members of the Bayside community to access this service closer to home.”
