Breast cancer luncheon helps support those in need

20/09/2019

Cabrini’s annual breast cancer luncheon is a highlight on the social calendar, with all funds going to support breast cancer services and treatment at Cabrini.

The luncheon brings together survivors, carers and medical professionals from the Cabrini network.

Featuring a panel of engaging speakers, including oncology specialists, breast cancer survivors and other inspiring women, the luncheon is an opportunity to celebrate life, hope and survivorship.

It is a time for many to forget, momentarily, the hardship of treatment and focus on having an enjoyable day out with friends and supporters.

With more than 19,000 women and men diagnosed with breast cancer every year, there are very few people who haven’t been touched by breast cancer in some way, whether it is a relative, friend or colleague who has been diagnosed, and all are welcome to attend this special event.

Cabrini Brighton General Manager and Director of Nursing Sue Hewat said the luncheon was a chance to celebrate the courage and strength of people with breast cancer.

“Every year we receive wonderful feedback about the luncheon,” Ms Hewat said.

“It is a lovely day out, in a supportive environment, where people can relax and have a good time.”

“We sell out of tickets ever year, so this year we have changed venues to accommodate additional numbers so that more people are able to attend.”

This year’s luncheon will be held at Carousel, overlooking Albert Park Lake, on 11 October.

Cabrini Foundation Director Sue Parkes said the event had grown every year.

“What was originally just a luncheon for patients, is now attended by anyone with an interest in supporting breast cancer services,” Ms Parkes said.

“Days like our annual breast cancer luncheon are an opportunity to help patients dealing with breast cancer find inspiration, in terms of their physical and emotional wellbeing.”

“We are increasingly seeing the need for women, their friends, family and supporters to get together and share their experiences while raising funds for a worthy cause.”
