Cabrini Health will begin the first phase of construction works for Cabrini Malvern’s new East Building in June, partnering with building contractor, Kingdom Projects.

This first phase of construction, which will run from mid-June to September, involves diverting essential underground services across the site. These preparation and utilities works are a critical step before excavation and foundation works commence later this year.

“We have been preparing for this significant moment for many years,” said Cabrini Malvern Executive Director, Louise Alexander.

“I’m proud to say the transformation of our Malvern site is really starting to take shape. We are close to completing our new theatre precinct within the existing building, so now feels like the right time to turn our attention to the construction of the new East Building.

“This is an incredibly exciting project, but we understand construction works can cause disruption. We are committed to keeping our neighbours and community informed as works progress,” Ms Alexander said.

Construction workers and vehicles will begin appearing on site in the coming weeks, with preparatory works commencing in June and July. However, the majority of phase one activity is expected from mid-August through to September.

The works will require the temporary closure of sections of the entrance driveway, which may slow traffic entering and exiting the hospital during peak periods. Traffic management and pedestrian diversions will be in place whenever works are occurring to help maintain safe and efficient access to the hospital.

“We are committed to doing what we can to minimise disruption,” said Ms Alexander. “For example, from August, many staff will park at a nearby off-site location to help reduce traffic congestion on and around the site.”

Temporary fencing will be installed on 10 June to secure part of the construction area in preparation for the first phase of works. The fencing will not impact pedestrian or vehicle access to the site.

“Thank you to our neighbours and the greater Stonnington community for their understanding and support as we build to deliver better access, better capacity and better care for generations to come,” Ms Alexander said.

The new East Building is a significant step in Cabrini Malvern’s ‘Next Era’ redevelopment, made possible by our generous donor community. Visit our Community Notification pages for regular updates and disruption information as the project progresses and plans are firmed.
