From patient to volunteer, Cabrini is “my place”

18/05/2022

Maree first came to Cabrini as a heart patient, and the comfort and care she received inspired her to volunteer at the Malvern hospital.

“It was my place to be,” she says. “I decided that once I was able that I was going to do volunteer work there.”

With a background in hospitality, Maree chose to be front and centre in a meet-and-greet volunteer role.

“I wouldn’t work anywhere else. Other hospitals feel cold, there’s no warmth,” she says.

“I like to think that when people come into Cabrini they feel the warmth that is there.”

“I am there to make them feel comfortable about where they are going. Even if they are there for day surgery, I’m there to reassure them that they are in excellent hands. And I do that. I do it with the kids too, tell them they’ll be pampered.”

In National Volunteer Week (16 – 22 May), the Cabrini community acknowledges the mighty contribution of Maree and all our volunteers.
