Prof David Kissane receives 2022 Doug Lording Research Award

Congratulations to Professor David Kissane AC, recipient of the Doug Lording Research Award 2022.

The Doug Lording Research Award is presented to Cabrini individuals for outstanding lifetime achievement in clinical, applied or basic research.

Prof Kissane is an academic psychiatrist and researcher in the fields of psycho-oncology and palliative care.

He is the Head of the Szalmuk Family Psycho-Oncology Research Unit at Cabrini Research, and currently holds the Chair of Palliative Medicine Research at the University of Notre Dame Australia.

He is also an Emeritus Professor of Psychiatry in the Department of Psychiatry at Monash University, and was previously Chairman of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York and, before that, the Foundation Chair of Palliative Medicine at the University of Melbourne.

Prof Kissane has received the Arthur Sutherland Award from the International Psycho-Oncology Society for lifetime achievement, the Klerman Award from Cornell University for psychotherapy research and in 2017 was made Companion in the General Division of the Order of Australia Award (AC) for eminent service to psychiatry, especially psycho-oncology and palliative care.

He has over 250 publications to his name and continues to attract funding and lead ground breaking research in the fields of psycho-oncology and palliative care.
