It’s one small step for the Cabrini Next Era redevelopment but one giant leap for Cabrini patients and staff as we celebrate the opening of our newly built cardiac catheter lab, one new operating theatre, and ground floor recovery area this week.

The opening of these key spaces is a major milestone in the redevelopment of Cabrini Malvern’s new theatre block and marks the first step in a staged roll out of the new facilities, Executive Director – Malvern and Brighton, Louise Alexander said.

“It’s exciting to open the first theatre, cath lab and recovery area of our new ground floor theatre block, and the feedback from everyone has been overwhelmingly positive,” Louise said.

“And there’s more to come in the next few weeks. We expect to have an additional three new theatres, plus refurbished procedure rooms operational in May, and a very impressive ground floor admissions area ready by June.”

This stage of the Cabrini Next Era redevelopment, which includes the construction of four new operating theatres, a new cardiac catheter lab, post-anaesthesia care unit (PACU) and impressive admissions and communal areas, is being delivered by building partners, Kingdom Projects. The works also include the refurbishment and expansion of two existing procedure rooms to further support growth.

“Within 10 years, more than 150,000 patients will look to Cabrini for healthcare every year, especially in areas of growing demand such as cancer, cardiac and orthopaedic services,” Louise said.

“To meet this increased demand, our hospital and our services have to grow. The opening of this first stage of our theatre block redevelopment signals the start of this exciting journey of growth that we’re taking together with our patients, our community and staff.”

The Next Era redevelopment, including a new East Building at Cabrini Malvern, will ensure that patients in our community can access the healthcare that they need when they need it, well into the future.
