Twin sisters, one calling
16/02/2026
Twin sisters Ebony and Hayley Williams have been together their whole lives and now they’re about to embark on a new journey together – nursing.
At the ceremony to welcome new graduates to Cabrini last week, Ebony sat in the crowd of 50 new Cabrini nurse graduates, watching proudly as her twin – already a year into her Cabrini journey – spoke about her own graduate year experiences.
Last year, Hayley chose Cabrini for her grad year following a positive experience during her placements.
“Everyone’s lovely and welcoming in the team,” Hayley said. “You feel like you’re home when you’re here.”
Currently working in the emergency department, Hayley starts her training for specialty practice this week.
“I love ED and couldn’t be happier,” she said.
Sister Ebony will be watching her sister closely as she too is considering life in ED when she completes her grad year.
“My most recent placement was in ED at Monash,” she said. “So, I was thinking, do I do ED at Cabrini, too? My twin sister loves it, so that’s possibly on the cards. Or even paediatrics. I love kids and have been a nanny for five years.”
While Hayley has now settled into life at Cabrini, Ebony is looking forward to finding her own footing.
“I’m looking forward to settling in, getting my basic groundwork for nursing down and building my confidence and nursing skills. I’m really looking forward to being part of the team,” Ebony said.
Although their journeys have led to the same place, the road to Cabrini was different for each sister.
“We’ve both had our own uni experiences and we’ve never compared them,” Ebony said.
“We’ve gone through our studies independently because until last year, we’d been together our whole lives and had done many of the same things. So, I think with undergrad, we just let ourselves find our own pace and rhythm to work out what we like and don’t like.”
While each sister is on the same page about where they’ve wanted to start their nursing careers, they do disagree about some things (like who has the better taste in music), but they can both agree on two pretty important things: that their twin will be an incredible nurse, and they’ll always have a ride to work!
Among the new cohort starting their grad year, there are some other familiar Cabrini faces. Andrea Melendres started work at Cabrini six years ago in domestic services and then became a personal care attendant (PCA) before beginning nursing.

“I was working on 5 West, our oncology ward, as a PCA and they’re very supportive and encouraging,” Andrea said. “It’s a very good environment for me to learn and to feel confident in what I’m doing. It feels like a sisterhood there.”
Efthymia Delichristou also started at Cabrini four years ago as a PCA – most recently in the emergency department.
“I’ve stuck with emergency because I really love it. I like how fast paced it is, and that every day is not the same,” Effie said. “Everyone has been really supportive of my nursing career.
“What I’ll take with me is how important working as a team is. I’ve seen so many critical moments where everyone really worked together to save a patient and we had a positive outcome.”
Devan Raj isn’t new to Cabrini either. He’s worked here for two years as a cardiac catheter lab orderly and will now do his grad year in Perioperative Services.
“Periop nursing intrigued me so much,” Devan said. “During down times I would talk to the nurses about the procedures happening in the area.”
After hearing their responses and stories, Devan was hooked.
“I definitely wanted to make my way into Periop.”
Devan has also experienced the hospital from both sides. When he was admitted as a patient, Devan recalls how comfortable he was made to feel.
“I never felt alone, the nurses made sure of that,” Devan said. “My colleagues would all come and visit me as well. Looking back on that – this is the place I wanted to be.”
To all our new graduates – who, like Devan, have also realised that Cabrini is where they want to be – we wish you an incredible nursing career.
