Research Operations

Supporting research excellence at Cabrini

Facilitating Leading Research

Our research operations form a comprehensive and consolidated resource, streamlining scientific and clinical workflows for our researchers. Both the Cabrini Research Governance Office and Research Development Office work closely with the Executive Leadership Team to implement strategic decisions into practice. These capabilities are also accessed by external partners from a diverse range of sectors, recognising the value of Cabrini’s commitment to patient-focused research excellence.

Research Governance

The Cabrini Research Governance Office (CRGO) oversees ethics and governance for projects conducted at Cabrini. Through a shared commitment to clinically impactful and ethical research, it carries out a critical function in ensuring regulatory compliance.

CRGO currently reviews lower risk projects involving human research and provides site governance for higher risk single-site projects and human research ethics committee (HREC) approved multi-site projects, in accordance with the National Mutual Acceptance scheme.

Additionally, CRGO provides the resources and tools necessary for researchers seeking ethics or governance approval for their projects, developing post-approval management protocols, and ensuring continued compliance for periodic review.

For more information about research governance at Cabrini, access CRGO Resources or contact the CRGO at researchgovernance@cabrini.com.au.

Governance Responsibilities

In carrying out its roles, the CRGO is responsible for the delivery of research that is:

  • ethically sound, satisfying all relevant governance directives;
  • organisationally aligned, affirming Cabrini’s mission, values, and priorities; and
  • collectively accountable, protecting participants and advocating for consumer and community involvement in research.

These responsibilities are overseen by the Cabrini Research Governance Committee, drawing together stakeholders, including consumers, from sectors across research, healthcare, government, and industry.

Governance Directives

The CRGO meets its responsibilities in accordance with all relevant directives, including:

  • the National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research, issued by the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC);
  • Commonwealth and state legislation and guidelines, including the National Clinical Trials Governance Framework; and
  • Catholic Health Australia’s Code of Ethical Standards for Catholic Health and Aged Care Services in Australia.

Research Development Office

Research Development Office

The Research Development Office forms a consolidated resource of professional services. Its purpose is to allow scientists and clinicians to focus on their research by reducing administrative burdens and streamlining workflows. In doing so, it aims to optimise scientific outputs, facilitate translational pipelines, and deliver clinical impact.

These services are also available to external partners and are provided through a range of agreement structures. For more information on the Research Development Office and its professional services, contact researchdevelopment@cabrini.com.au.

Bioinformatics

Consistently featuring in globally significant research, our bioinformatics have been recognised as amongst the highest in the world in terms of research output. It provides wide-ranging support for researchers, from project design, quantitative transformation and analysis, and data visualisation.
